Many years ago, SAP created a function in Solution Manager to help IT staff to track processes (Business Process Monitoring). Even if the abbreviations are the same, it must not be confused with SAP Business Process Management, a new SAP initiative in the area of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA).
Arumba searched for a possibility to stabilize business processes and started to use Solution Manager BPM functionality (with some adjustments) to stabilize business processes as a new application. In the meantime, SAP added many new features like:
- more Key figures to track business processes
- adaptation of key figures to the needs of business process stabilization, not only monitoring of IT processes
- enhancing monitoring features with a powerful analytics part
Solution Manager is part of standard SAP software and included in normal licensing. No additional investment is necessary. Because SAP invests effort to develop new functionality, all customers can profit without in-house developing. Business Process Monitoring is also tightly integrated with SAP ERP and CRM systems.
